Eight Pa-bred and eight Union Rags to be sold at Saratoga Selected Yearlings sale

One of the most important sales of the year, Fasig-Tipton's Selected Yearlings Sale, will be held this year on Aug, 7-8 and includes eight Pa-breds and eight by Union Rags, seven colts and one filly.

Union Rags' only filly in the sale, hip number 22, is is also a Pa-bred.

She is a gray or roan filly out of Newstouse, by Unbridled's Song,  bred by Equivine Farm LLC and foaled at its farm, and consigned by Paramount Sales, Agent.

Newstouse had three wins as a 3- and 4-year-old and has two foals of racing age, including a 2-year-old of 2017, neither of which has raced.

Hip 22's second dam, Double Cat, by Storm Cat, won the Queen of the Green Handicap and is the dam of nine foals, eight to race, of which six were winners.

She is consigned by Paramount Sales, Agent.

Union Rags was bred by and is owned by Phyllis Wyeth's Chadds Ford Stable in Chadds Ford, Pa., and he won $1,798,800, including the 2012 Belmont Stakes.

His first foals are 3 this year, and he is already the sire of five black type winners, including Union Strike, winner of last year's G1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes, Dancing Rags, winner of the G1 Aclibiades Stakes, Paradise Woods, winner of this year's G1 Santa Anita Oaks , and Tequilita.

His hip number 126 is a bay colt out of Apt to Star, by Aptitude, who was placed in her one start as a 2-year-old and is the dam of six to race with five winners, including two with black type; Aegean, winner of the G3 Kentucky Juvenile Stakes, and Light Bringer, winner of the Chispiski Stakes.

Hip number 126's second dam, Sweeping, by End Sweep, is a stakes winner and the dam of eight foals, seven to race, including two with black type, Fabulous Babe and Angel Island, and hip 126 is consigned by Eaton Sales, Agent.

 

HIP NUMBER 163 is a Pa-bred, bred by Brushwood Stable and foaled there, by Malibu Moon, the sire of 15 crops with 99 black type winners including G1 winners Declan's Moon, Orb, Life at Ten, Carina Mia, Gormley, Devil May Care, Malibu Mint and Ask the Moon.

Hip number 163 is a bay colt, the second foal out of the unraced Cloud Jumper, by Street Cry, and his second dam is the stakes winning Storm Beauty, by Storm Cat, the dam of five winners including G3 stakes winning Buffum, stakes winning Stormy West, stakes placed Renaissance Lady and Value Stream, third in  the Redondo Stakes. He  is consigned by Four Star Sales, Agent

Hip number 12 is another Pa-bred, a dark bay or brown colt, bred by and foaled at Blackstone Farm LLC, by Orb and is the first foal out of Midnight Bliss, by Midnight Lute, who was third in the Selene Stakes. He is consigned by Lanes End, Agent,

Also bred by Blackstone Farm are hip number 60, a dark bay or brown filly by Tiznow and the first foal out of the winner Slew's Golden Rule, by Langfuhr, consigned by Warrendale Sales, Agent; hip number 146, a bay filly by Tiznow out of the winner Brilliancy, by Exchange Rate, dam of five foals, all who have raced, including four winners, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Agent; and hip number 168, a dark bay or brown filly by Ghostzapper out of the unraced Cappermine, byUnbridled's Song, the dam of two foals, one an unraced 2-year-old and one to race, unplaced, consigned by Taylor Made Agency,

Hip number 15 is a dark bay or brown colt bred by C Bisquit Racing, and foaled at and consigned by Walnut Green, who is by Tiznow out of the unraced Monday Valentine, by Smart Strike, the dam of one 3-year-old foal who has not started.

Hip number 41 is also bred by and foaled at Equivine Farm LLC, a chestnut filly by Curlin out of the multiple stakes winning and placed Redaspen, by Bianconi, the dam of six to race with five winners, including stakes winning Sonny Corleone and stakes placed Wychmore.

 

THE FIVE other colts by Union Rags include hip number 4, a bay colt who is the first foal out of the winner Majestic Jewel, by Cindago, consigned by Gainesway, and hip number 26, a bay colt out of the winner Passion Du Coeur, by Distorted Humor, who is a sister to the stakes winner Distorted Passion and is the dam of three to race, all winners and is consigned by VanMeter-Gentry Sales.

Union Rag's hip number 58 is a bay colt out of the winner Shimmer, by Pulpit, who is the dam of six foals of racing age, five to race, with three winners, including stakes placed Sister Moon, and is consigned by Eaton Sales.

His hip number 59 is a chestnut colt out of the unraced Skyscape, by Marquetry, the dam of 11 foals of racing age, with 10 winners, including the graded stakes winning Sky Cape and two who are stakes placed, Reality Show and K O Love, and is consigned by Gainesway, Agent, for Normandy Farm.

Union Rags' hip number 69 is a bay colt out of Suave Voir Faire, by Suave, who was third in a G2 stakes and in a G3 stakes,and who is the dam of two foals of racing age, including a 2-year-old, with one to race, Resident Scholar, who is a winner, He is consigned by Taylor made Sales Agency.

The two Maryland-breds are hip number 106, a chestnut filly by Scat Daddy out of stakes winning Winning Season, by Lemon Drop Kid, and hip number 207, Bad Dude, who is by Eskendereya out of the winner Im a Dixie Girl, by Dixie Union.

The Virginia contingent includes hip numbers 56, sired by Munnings, 61, sired by Bodemeister, 67, by Hard Spun, 78, by First Samurai, 90, by Into Mischief, 140, by Scat Daddy, 161, by Uncle Mo, 204, by Violence, and 225, by Flatter.

The Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearling Sales is a boutique sale that annually draws buyers from all over the world who are willing to spend top dollar for a yearling with excellent conformation and top breeding.

Also featured annually at the Saratoga sale is a sale of fine sporting paintings and sculpture bu Cross Gate Gallery of Lexington, Ky., which is displayed on the second floor of the Humphrey S. Finney Sales pavilion.
