No Dozing adds to Union Rags' string of stakes winners

Union Rags was the number one first-crop sire of G1 winners last year, and his get are continuing to add to his total in 2017.

His 3-year-old son No Dozing, out of Stay Awake by Pulpit, won the Concern Stakes at Laurel on July 22.

Bred by Mr. & Mrs. M. Roy Jackson and owned by their Lael Stables, No Dozing is trained by Arnaud Delacour and was ridden by Daniel Centano.

He won the 7 furlong race by 4 lengths over Frank V. Demarco's Honor the Fleet, trained by Louis Albertrani and ridden by Steve Hamilton, with DARRS Inc.'s Proforma, trained by Michael Stidham and ridden by Sheldon Russel another 1 1/2 lengths back in third.

No Dozing broke last but sped to the early lead. He was challenged by Honor the Fleet entering the turn and dueled with that one until mid-stretch, where he began to draw clear.

No Dozing also placed second in the G3 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs on May 6, third in the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 15 and second in the G2 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct on Nov. 26, 2016.

On the same day as No Dozing's win, Union Rags' Free Drop Billy, out of a Giant's Causeway mare, finished second in the G3 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga.

On July 21, Union Rags' Smokem, out of a Smoke Glacken mare, was an impressive winner of a $60,000 Maiden Special Weight at 5 furlongs for 2 year olds at Del Mar.

Running seventh or eighth early on, Smokem made a big move on the turn, flying past four or five horses and continued to move forward to win by four or five lengths.

Standing at Lanes End Farm, Union Rags' 2017 fee is $50,000.

His current top performers are Paradise Woods, winner of the G1 Santa Anita Oaks on April 8, D.D. Matz' Tequilita, winner of the G2 Forward Gal Stakes on Feb. 2 and second in the G2 Gulfstream Park Oaks on April 1, No Dozing and Union Strike, winner of the G1Santa Paula Stakes at Santa Anita on April 9 and second in the G2 Eight Belles Stakes at Churchill Downs on May 5.

Musawaah won the Prix de la Seine at Chatilly in France on May 7.

His stakes placed get include Patch, third in the Belmont Stakes on June 6, Free Drop Willy and Everybodylovesrudy, second in the Miracle Woods Stakes at Laurel on Feb. 18.

Patch is his leading runner by lifetime earnings with $380,020, followed by Union Strike, $332,160, Tequilita, $298,540, Dancing Rags, $296,985, Paradise Woods, $293,200, No Dozing, $262,340, Everybodylovesrude, $158,730, Confederate, $787,306, Mozu King Tide, $72,294, and Fillet of Sole, $62,000,
