Drawing on a local collection of top performers in the carriage driving world -- competitors, trainers and judges, the BRANDYWINE VALLEY DRIVING CLUB is in a strong position to invest in a new generation of carriage drivers.
Members have designed and coordinated a week-long program for talented juniors (with the "equestrian bug") to teach them the basics of safe and competent carriage driving.
Starting with an introduction to the complexities of harness and carriage, the program progresses through the gaits, safe halts, reinback and emergency measures. Great ponies, equipment and setting are important elements.
Young drivers will be exposed to the traditions associated with the carriage era as well as the discipline, thrills and excitement of competition in the pleasure ring and the challenges of combined driving.
The club is pleased to offer the program to the local equine world and to contribute to the preservation of an important slice of equine history.
