Georgia Rescue recently saved two mules from the killers at Lancaster Auction

Meet our new friends at SAVE THE HORSES RESCUE.

Save the Horses Rescue in Cumming, Ga., was started years ago by Cheryl Flanagan.

Ga. rescue 1Cheryl was a 4 H and US Pony Club leader when she started taking horses who were retiring from the Tampa Bay Down Race Track.

She worked many additional hours with law enforcement, helping abandoned and neglected horses in the area.

The organization began to take on a life of it’s own, and 30 years later, the group now takes a variety of horses and other animals into its rescue named The Horse Rescue Relief and Retirement Fund, Inc., or better know now as ‘Save The Horses.’

Its retraining program at Save the Horses is totally based on trust ,with no time limit for the animal.

Ga. rescue 2Recently, two very old mules were rescued at a Lancaster Auction just before being sent to slaughter. and they were taken to this rescue in Georgia.

Quite by accident, a local Chester County Artist (our own, Ginny Jenkins) heard of the rescue, saw a picture of one (ironically taken by the kill buyer, unbeknownst to Jenkins), and inspired her to paint this picture of the grey mule, now named Earl.

She portrayed the animal’s strength of character here - after years of hard work and finally being cast aside.

Thus another new friendship between caring people and animals in need.

Ginny titled the painting “BRAVEHEART” for this animal’s bravery and ever so kindly spirit. Prints may soon be available as a fund raiser.
