B.W. Furlong & Associates Hires Board Certified Equine Surgeon, adds second facility

OLDWICK, N.J. –--B.W. Furlong & Associates is thrilled to announce that in conjunction with the addition of board certified equine surgeon, Dr. Petrisor Baia to the practice, they will also be providing elective surgical services at a second facility, Sterlingbrook, in Pittstown, N.J.

b.w. Furlong 1Petrisor Baia, DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVS, brings a wealth of formal education, research, and years of excellent surgical experience to B.W. Furlong & Associates.

The inclusion of a full-time equine surgeon allows for a comprehensive, full-service experience for clients and their equine patients, with options from initial evaluation and diagnostics, to surgical solutions, to rehabilitation at the on-site Furlong’s Soundness Center.

In addition to offering surgery at the main hospital in Oldwick, B.W. Furlong & Associates will also be providing elective surgeries at Sterlingbrook.

b.w. furlong 2Sterlingbrook Equine Trauma Center is owned by Dr. Dennis Milne and his wife Joan, and Dr. Milne operated out of the facility for more than three decades.

They continue to offer rehab services to clients from numerous race tracks in the near vicinity.

By having two surgical locations, Dr. Baia and his team will be able to offer surgical services that are most appropriate for each patient.

Patients that require post-op critical care, or are under medical observation, will be operated on in Oldwick, and then will be attended to in the hospital under the supervision of Rachel Gardner, DVM, DACVIM.

Healthy patients that are being admitted for elective cases will be operated on at Sterlingbrook, which will significantly reduce the possibility of secondary illness or infection.

“In the few months that he has been here, Dr. Baia has already proven to be an excellent surgeon and a veterinarian that is committed to excellent patient care. With the addition of Sterlingbrook, we feel that we are increasing the quality of patient care, which ultimately means a complete, start-to-finish patient experience,” said Dr. Furlong, President and Founder of B.W. Furlong & Associates.

B.W. Furlong & Associates has long been associated with superior veterinary care and cutting-edge sports medicine diagnostics, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitative therapies, as well as having an onsite standing MRI and sport horse rehabilitation center.

While the practice has previously offered emergency surgeries through the on-call services of board-certified surgeons Dr. Dennis Milne and Dr. Michael Fugaro, clients will now have a wider array of surgical options.

The addition of Dr. Baia is yet another step towards continuing the mission of B.W. Furlong & Associates: To be an integral part of our clients’ equine dreams and ambitions.
