Hay Makes Heat, and Hay Huts keeps hay dry

Often, in the middle of a snowstorm, our blanketed horses stand around the HAY HUT instead of in the comfort of their shed.

Hay Huts 1Photo by After the RacesWhy?

According to Joe Pagan, PhD, of Kentucky Equine Research, consuming hay produces considerable heat from the inside out that the horse can use to warm himself rather than having to shiver or move to stay warm.

Feeding high-quality forages on a free-choice basis every day through winter sustains a higher metabolic rate and distributes the heat produced by nutrient metabolism and the muscular activity of digestion over a 24-hour period.

Hence, hay makes heat!

Not just any hay makes heat, however.

Hay must be of good quality, and more importantly hay must be clean and dry.

Hay Huts 2A HAY HUT offers the protection of large round or large square bales of hay for around the clock feeding.

A HAY HUT minimizes waste and maximizes yield, as most of the hay is eaten, rather than strewn about.

HAY HUTS minimize friction between horses, as each horse may eat from different side of the HAY HUT, screening one from another.

HAY HUTS fit virtually every size and every breed horse.

Bar-Bar-A is the birth of a new standard in watering horses and livestock

Bar-Bar-A has been providing non-electric automatic horse and livestock drinkers for over 25 years.

BarBar1The concept for today’s unit was conceived when the inventor, Frank Frodsham, had a horse that was not eating or drinking.

When the veterinarian was called he could not diagnose a problem.

Just as the Vet was beginning to leave the area, his assistant put his hand in the electric waterer.

To his surprise and discomfort she received a mild shock.

Parts diagram.png 1The electric waterer had been shocking the horse.

The horse was dehydrated- causing the sickness.

As necessity is the mother of invention, Frank began working on a solution.

He was never again to have a horse or animal suffer from an electric shock from an automatic waterer.

BarBar2And so – The Bar-Bar-A horse and livestock drinker was born.

As a result of Frank's ingenuity the following characteristics were born:

-No Electricity
-No Algae
-No Standing Water
-Water Temperature Constant All Year Long
-Low Maintenance

As a company Bar-Bar-A is continuing to follow Frank's concern for the safety of animals by creating new ideas and improvements every year to our products; all for the animals and those who take such good care of them.

These waterers are great in the paddock or in the stall too!
