Wendy Lofting, actress and artist, died at 70

Wendy Winslow Lofting, actress and artist, age 70 of Kennett Square, Pa., passed away Wednesday Oct. 4.

Born in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Thomas “Scudder” Winslow and the late Elizabeth Russell Winslow.

Lofting was an artist through and through.

She attended Simmons College in Boston, Mass., as an art major and continued throughout her life to explore her creative passions.

She illustrated children’s books, crafted trophies for tSteeplechases and performed at the Delaware Theatre Company.

Lofting even won an award for her one woman show where she portrayed Harriet Tubman.

She cared a great deal for the environment.

Her belief in the preservation of our natural environment, ecosystems, vegetation and wildlife led her to volunteering with various organizations such as the Blackfoot Challenge Organization, the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County, Stroud Water Research, the Brandywine Conservancy and Canine Partners for Life.

As a member and volunteer for these organizations, Lofting worked to bring awareness to issues that were near and dear to her heart.

She is survived by one son, Hugh Lofting and his wife, Sally; one daughter, Elliott Lofting; one brother, Tom Winslow and his wife, Sheila; two sisters, Betsy Wagner and her husband, Bruce, and Gail Minot; as well as her grandson, Tuff Lofting.

YoThere was a service for her on Friday, Oct. 20 at 1:00 pm at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Kennett Square, Pa., followed by a reception hosted by her family.
