Alexa Pessoa, who had won the previous class, the $25,000 Adirondack 1.45m Jumper Classic, was the first of 19 entries to compete over the course designed by Michel Vaillancourt.

She set the time to beat with a clean round in 71.92 seconds on Leyira.

Brown then had in the only other clean round, and her time of 67.60 seconds on Colina Z gave her the win.

Brown also placed third with the fastest time of 63.09 seconds on Caiam D’Ivraie, but a rail down gave her four faults.

“I had one rail on my first horse, so I was just trying to be fast and efficient on my second and not overcover my lines,” Brown said. “I just got her last December so she’s pretty new to me, but we came together pretty quickly. She’s such a tryer and pretty generous, and I really enjoy riding her. This is my first time in Lake Placid, and it has probably the most beautiful views of any horse show I’ve seen.”

JUST BEFORE the FEI class, Pessoa on Northern Light won the $25,000 Adirondack 1.45m Jumper Classic.

“It’s always an advantage to go last. I had the benefit of watching some really nice rounds before me, and I had my plan all set before I went in,” Pessoa said. “She’s not a horse that I know well, but she’s extremely competitive and capable. It was my job not to get in her way, and it worked out.”

Earlier in the day, Laura Chapot on Tyson Fury was clean in the jump-off in 28.978 to win over a field of 33 entries in the $5,000 1.35m Jumper Stake.
