DEVON, Pa.--Laura Chapot on Ginola won the $5,000, 1.40m Welcome Stake during the evening session of the opening day of the Devon Fall Classic, Thursday, Sept.11.
Laura Chapot on Ginola at DevonIn a competition in which riders clean over the first round did their jump-off round immediately following, 16 from the starting field of 33 made the jump-off.
Of those, eight were clean again, and Chapot, finishing in 31.200.was the fastest by a little over a second.
Morgan Ward-Knowlton on GF Diego was second in 32.394, and Rachael Lively on Wavo Alvaro was third in 33.153.
Chapot was clean on all three of her horses, finishing ninth on C & C Willow and 10th on Jolie Van Schuttershol.
"Ginola is a 9-year-old, and I got him when he was 6," said Chapot. "He's been moving up the ranks. This was a really good class for him to win."
"HE'S BEEN to Devon before," said Chapot. "He showed here in Young Jumper classes. But his is his first time in an open division. He's been getting more consistent. He''s won a grand prix at Princeton."
"He jumped very well last night," she said. "I'm proud of him."
"I'm just riding one horse in the Speed class tonight, Jolie," said Chapot. "She's a new horse for me. I got her the last week of the Winter Equestrian Festival. She came from Richie Vogel, and she's an exciting new mount for me."
"I'll be riding all three of my horses in the Grand Prix," she said.
Gracie Allen on Enya Ems Van de Padenborre Z won the Open Jumper 1.30m class during the afternoon session, clean in 35.955.
Rachael Lively on Rythmic DK was second, clean in 37,166, and Morgan Ward-Knowlton on Contiki was third, clean in 38.417.
