MALVERN, Pa.--Saunders Dixon, 96 of Malvern, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 11.
He was at home comfortably surrounded by his three dogs and wife of 32 years, Sallie.
Born March 5th,1928, he will be missed by many; his family, friends, and the Thorncroft community as welll as the Thorncroft Farm he started and nurtured for over 50 years.
A Quaker, pacifist, father, husband, teacher, and always true to his ‘north star’, his moral compass never wavered.
In his office he welcomed parents, riders and visiting friends who could be found in conversation about absolutely anything; sharing spirited opinions or sitting in silence.
His larger-than-life self was a presence in the barn where his knowledge of horses and horsemanship were respected and welcomed.
Watching him in the arena or quietly walking around his Farm with a rider, you would feel his presence.
HIS LEGACY reaches far beyond Thorncroft.
He was a farmer, dairyman and milk tester, he raised prize winning Old English Game chickens, walked with Bayard Rustin and Martin Luther King Jr. in Washington and chained himself to the IRS building in protest of war.
Saunders was a man who “walked the walk.”
Always one to care for those less fortunate than himself, and in lieu of flowers, Saunders listed these local not for profit charities to receive gifts in his memory: Chester County Food Bank, Manna, Philabundance, West Chester Food Cupboard, and Goshen Friends Meeting.
Saunders is survived by his wife Sallie, daughter Susie Dixon and her husband Gary Brearley, his son Saunders Dixon IV and his wife Ann Mills with their children Erin Dixon, Alex Seewald, and Mark and wife Isabella Seewald, and grandchildren Allison Dixon, Skylar Dixon and Ethan Cuevas), his daughter Linda Dixon, her daughter Lucy, his son John Alec Dixon and his wife Lisa Blackledge with their children Emily and Natalie.
From the Saunders’ family, thank you for continuing to hold him in your hearts.
