"After a heavy rainfall this past summer, I was quite shocked to see this guy, a tree frog, hanging out of one of my birdhouses!!," said Wiseman "He seemed right at home and very happy that he had shelter during the rain storm."

Here is a photo of "Ceiling Crusher", red nose band, #2, breaking out of the gate at the Parx Race Track on PA Derby Day," said Coath. "She is heading out to win the $1 Million Dollar Cotillion Stakes, a race for the fillies that has the same payoff for the actual PA Derby! Her Jockey is Edwin A. Maldonado, trainer, Doug O'Neill. The horse next to her came in 2nd, blue silks #3, "Pretty Mischievous", ridden by Tyler Gaffalione. Pennsylvania Derby Day is the biggest day of racing in Pennsylvania, and draws the top horses in the USA as well as the top jockeys and trainers. It is an extremely exciting day for horse racing in Pennsylvania!"

The quality of this photo isn’t great since I was using my phone, but it was a pretty amazing morning on the Chester River Golf & Country Club course in Chestertown," said Heck. "One fox next to the bird bath, the other in the distance enjoying a gambol on the 14th fairway; the two obviously friends. Not sure if you can make it work but I was glad to capture the moment."
If you look carefully, there is a fox standing with his fron tfeet on the top of the birdbath, and there's a dot in the distance in front of and to the left of the tree in the background that is another fox.

"Here is the #1 Jockey in the world, Irad Ortiz Jr., here in the Philadelphia area for the Pennsylvania Derby this past Sept. 23," said Coath. "He had a number of horses to ride, the best he got was second in a couple of races that day. However, he as always, was more than happy to put on a big smile for the cameras. He gets right down to business when riding the horses though, and this year, again, was the winningest rider in the USA. The Pennsylvania Derby attracts the top horses in the country with the $1 million Cotillion, and the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. Nice to see these top riders every year!"

"After she competed she had her niece, Amber Selke, enter in their Lead Line class. Amber is in second grade and was one very happy little girl to have had the opportunity to be aboard an off-the-track thoroughbred."

"What a sight to see was this horse on this day, at one of the most beautiful places on earth. Everyone who attended was full of appreciation at the beauty of all the horses that day."

"This is a photo of world famous #1 Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., here in the Philadelphia area this past September, racing horses in a number of Pennsylvania Derby races," said Coath. "He is just outside of the Jockey's area at Parx Racetrack, relaxing a bit before the next race. He is always smiling for the cameras and is a great sport about his fame, but gets right down to business when racing any horse he rides. The Pennsylvania Derby always attracts the best horses in the country, and is such an exciting day of racing in the Pennsylvania region, with the one million dollar Cotillion, and the one million dollar Pennsylvania Derby!"

The clarity of this unusual picture, but especially the expression of joy and fun on the girl's face, made this the winning photo.
"I have a boarding and training stable, Firefly Farm, in Glenmoore," said Ligon. "This is one of my current students. She's riding one of my horses. This was taken at March Creek during the week of summer camp. I only take the horses there that I know enjoy going into the water."

Photos in all categories are judged on, among other things, the clarity of photo, the expressions on the faces of person or animal in the photo, how natural or unposed the participants are and the difficulty of getting an extraordinary photo.
Pam Coath's catching this photo at just the right moment was exceptional, and the expressions on the faces, the concentration of Hernandez as he writes and the delight on the child's face made this a winner.
"Here is a photo of Juan J. Hernandez, a famous jockey, who was at Parx racetrack this past summer for the Pennsylvania Derby," said Coath. "He had some young fans, including this little girl who got him to sign some goggles for her! Bet she will grow up to be a racing fan!"

"This was taken at the Brandywine Polo Club on Aug. 6, 2023, in the Brandywine Valley of Kennett Square Pa.," said Artlett. "The horse had all his feet off the ground with the rider, as they galloped down the field."

'I lead second flight at Riverhill," said Riess. "I take all my photos of foxhunting on horseback. Between leading the field and controlling my horse, I use an iphone to take the pictures. Here Jim was casting hounds in Nottingham Park. We almost always getto see a fox up there."

This is the first year the buck grew antlers, in the picture the antlers are still covered in the velvet coating."

I was pet sitting at the Nibouar's when looking out at their pool from their kitchen window I saw something floating in the pool," said Diamond. "Zipping outside to the pool it was a baby bunny doing the bunny paddle for all it was worth as opposed to the doggie paddle! I got the tool to scoop it out. The poor thing was soaking wet and trembling. Stuck the bunny in my shirt and went into the house where I made a little overnight home for the bunny. Gave some lettuce! Next morning the bunny was all dry and ready to be outside."
