"Here is the #1 Jockey in the world, Irad Ortiz Jr., here in the Philadelphia area for the Pennsylvania Derby this past Sept. 23," said Coath. "He had a number of horses to ride, the best he got was second in a couple of races that day. However, he as always, was more than happy to put on a big smile for the cameras. He gets right down to business when riding the horses though, and this year, again, was the winningest rider in the USA. The Pennsylvania Derby attracts the top horses in the country with the $1 million Cotillion, and the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. Nice to see these top riders every year!"

"This cell phone photo is of Kristin Schlachter who competed her thoroughbred, Knockout Kick, this past September in the All Thoroughbred Horse Show held at Fair Hil," she said. "After she competed she had her niece, Amber Selke, enter in their Lead Line class. Amber is in second grade and was one very happy little girl to have had the opportunity to be aboard an off-the-track thoroughbred."

"Thank you to Iron Spring Farm for hosting this "test" day every year for the Friesian Horse Association of North America," she said. "What a sight to see was this horse on this day, at one of the most beautiful places on earth. Everyone who attended was full of appreciation at the beauty of all the horses that day."

"This is a photo of world famous #1 Jockey Irad Ortiz Jr., here in the Philadelphia area this past September, racing horses in a number of Pennsylvania Derby races," said Coath. "He is just outside of the Jockey's area at Parx Racetrack, relaxing a bit before the next race. He is always smiling for the cameras and is a great sport about his fame, but gets right down to business when racing any horse he rides. The Pennsylvania Derby always attracts the best horses in the country, and is such an exciting day of racing in the Pennsylvania region, with the one million dollar Cotillion, and the one million dollar Pennsylvania Derby!"

Photos in all categories are judged on, among other things, the clarity of photo, the expressions on the faces of person or animal in the photo, how natural or unposed the participants are and the difficulty of getting an extraordinary photo.
Pam Coath's catching this photo at just the right moment was exceptional, and the expressions on the faces, the concentration of Hernandez as he writes and the delight on the child's face made this a winner.
"Here is a photo of Juan J. Hernandez, a famous jockey, who was at Parx racetrack this past summer for the Pennsylvania Derby," said Coath. "He had some young fans, including this little girl who got him to sign some goggles for her! Bet she will grow up to be a racing fan!"

'I lead second flight at Riverhill," said Riess. "I take all my photos of foxhunting on horseback. Between leading the field and controlling my horse, I use an iphone to take the pictures. Here Jim was casting hounds in Nottingham Park. We almost always getto see a fox up there."
