DEVON, Pa.--A 2-year-old filly, AB Designer Debut, owned by Danielle Kaufman and handled by Charlie Brown, was Best Young Pony on Wednesday, May 21 at the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair.
The Devon Country Fair is open throughout the show,AB Designer, a chestnut North American Sport Pony by Annings Armani, won the Two-Year=Old Filly class to qualify for the four pony Championship class, where she was pinned over the Reserve Champion, Michele Haxel's Lady's First, handled by Paul Maye, who had won the Yearling Filly class to qualify for the Championship class.
"I just showed her," said Brown. "I show a lot of ponies for Morgan Short, who has the pony for the owner. I just met them at the show. They're from Canada,and this is the only show they come down for. She's a really nice filly."
Devon, as one of the top shows in the country, draws exhibitors from all over, and Californians stood out in Junior Hunters , winning three of the four classes on Devon's opening day.
Stella Rumanes of Topanga, Calif., on Goodnight Moon won both classes over fences in Small Junior Hunter, 3'3".
With only one class left in the division, to be held to be Thursday, Rumanes has a big lead in the race for the championship.
IN THE Large Junior Hunter 3'3", Sienna Smith of Villa Park, Calif., won one of the over fences classes.
Ava Berman of Baltimore, Md., broke into the Californians domination, winning the other over fences class in Junior Hunter, 3'3".
Junior Hunter 3'3" concludes in the Wheeler Ring on Thursday.
Equitation begins with two classes in the Dixon Oval on Thursday, and concludes Friday with one class and the Championship.
The first 1.40m Junior Jumper is Thursday at 6 p.m.
