By 2002, we knew we had a powerful way to help animals and we found ourselves in a unique position to do so.
Our daughter, Allison, knew it too.
She envisioned creating a company to reach people needing help for their dogs and horses.
And she had the business acumen to pull it off.
But first a little back story:
Joseph was a man driven by the desire to help ease suffering.
He was also a very smart man.
So, after returning from Vietnam, he focused on his education, achieving his Ph.D. and doing postdoctoral research at M.I.T.
HE LOVED the research but something was missing.
When he discovered the depth of knowledge and the effectiveness of Chinese medicine he knew he had found the tools and concepts he’d been seeking to really help people.
Over the next 20 years, he established one of the first successful acupuncture clinics in KCMO.
He loved helping people, but an injury sustained during the Vietnam war caused a spinal degeneration that eventually made that profession physically impossible to continue.
But he certainly wasn’t done.
He shifted his focus from acupuncture to herbalism and took his herbal skills to a whole new level of formulation.
When my mare Jesse Doe foundered, I asked him to apply his skills and find a solution.
He did.
Then I asked if he could do anything to get rid of the many sarcoids growing on our young horse Willow’s face.
He did that too.
In several weeks, they were gone.
To my delight, the horses loved the herbs, so it was not only effective but easy and fun to help them.
Allison needed an herbal formula for one of her dog’s pulled tendon and another for arthritis.
He did that too.
Across the board, he was having success helping these animals thrive.
Finding how responsive animals are to the right herbal formulas, Joseph went on to develop a line of herbal solutions for some of the most difficult health issues that horses and dogs experience.
And so we began.
