DEVON, Pa.--Stella Stinnett of New Hope, Pa., on Storiall Blue won the $10,000 Devon Fall Classic Speed Stake in a fairy tale ending on Friday, Sept. 12.
Stella Stinnett on Storial BlueStinnett had always dreamed of riding under the lights in the Dixon Oval, and not only did that dream come true, but she made it even better by actually winning under the lights on Friday.
Stinnett was clean in 64.687 to beat Collin Reynolds on Ideal HX, clean in 65.179.
Only four from the starting field of 17 were clean, with Michael Kocher on Chanel 479 third in 64.046, and Elizabeth Traband on Rokeechobee STB fourth in 70.390.
“Devon is a huge goal for everyone, and for me, especially growing up here," said Stinnett. "This is an iconic show, and it has always been my dream to show under the lights.
"Thanks to the whole team that supports me and Storiall, and especially my mom and dad,” she said.
Stinnett has ridden Storiall Blue for three years, and on Friday night her strategy was to ride conservatively, and it paid off.
“Storiall Blue is really unique because I can go and do anything like this, and I am never nervous, never scared, because I know he’s got my back,” Stinnett said.
IN THE Thoroughbred Jumper division, after two days o! competition, Temperance Fetterolf and Michelle Korcz were locked in a tight points race, and in the end, they finished in a tie and shared the coveted tricolor ribbon over a highly competitive field.
Fetterolf on Full Time Party was clean and fast to win the first $500 Thoroughbred Jumper 1.00–1.05m class of the division, and then finished second in the Stake on Friday.
On Friday, Korcz on Neal Shapiro’s chestnut gelding Will Scarlett won the second class of the division, clean in 55.441 seconds, while Fetterolf was second.
Andrew Ross, a longtime competitor at both The Devon Horse Show and The Devon Fall Classic, on Electra won the $1,000 Thoroughbred Jumper Stake 1.00–1.05m.
